The Porcupines suffered their second home game in Africa this season after succumbing to a 1-2 defeat against Algerian giants ES Setif at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
Kwame Opoku gave the hosts the lead after the interval with the visitors scoring two quick goals through Amoura and Kendouchi to snatch a vital away win for the Black Eagles ahead of the second leg next week.
A result that leaves Asante Kotoko facing almost certain elimination; a premature end that, like several others in recent memory, scrapes some more sheen off continental credentials that once sparkled.
However, Board Member of Asante Kotoko, Kwasi Osei Ofori talking to the media after the game has revealed that their main focus this season is to clinch the local league and prepare very well for next season’s continental championship.
“Our concentration is not about the African Cup but rather but it’s about winning the local league and preparing for next season’s Champions League and that’s our main target,” Kwasi Ofori said.
“If we win in Algiers, that’s fine, if not, it’s okay by us because winning the local league is our main target as mentioned earlier”
Asante Kotoko will travel to Algeria next week for the second leg with the hopes of overturning the results and progressing into the group stage.
