An aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe says the failure on the part of the lawyers of the petitioner to file the witness statement as demanded by the Court was not an act of disrespect to the judges of the Supreme Court.
According to him, the lawyers of former President John Mahama gave reasons for not filing their witness statement as they have already filed for stay for proceeding, making it impossible to take a further step.
Speaking on Okay FM’s ‘Ade Akye Abia’ Morning Show, Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe was of the view that no lawyer can set out his mind to go to the Supreme Court to disobey the judges as lawyers know the Supreme Court to be the highest court of the land.
“As lawyers, the Supreme Court is the highest court of the land and so no Lawyer can say that he is going to disobey the Supreme Court. We gave a reason that it is because of the stay for proceeding that we have filed; we did not want to take a further step and that is why we did not file our witness statement,” he explained.
He, however, indicated that in view of the warning by the Supreme Court, the lawyers of the Petitioner have been given up to the close of Wednesday, 27th January 2021 to file all the processes that they need to file.
“The Supreme Court made it clear to us that the position we canvass, they disagree with us and for that matter, they gave us by close of Wednesday, 27th January 2021 to file so we come back to the court tomorrow,” he hinted.
